Les lois physiques se manifestent dans chaque mouvement. Le contact improvisation se propose d’en faire une étude. Il joue avec la variation des appuis possibles et de nombreux autres paramètres qui apparaissent lorsque nous cherchons une entente sur la façon d’habiter l’espace et le temps avec d’autres. Le contact improvisation exige une conscience précise de l’emplacement du centre de gravité et de sa trajectoire, pour pouvoir le partager avec ses partenaires et coopérer avec discernement.

Dans cet atelier, nous explorerons les principes physiques qui soutiennent nos danses, nous permettent de dialoguer de manière non-verbale et de déployer une créativité partagée.

L‘Axis Syllabus est un recueil de connaissances sans cesse réactualisées sur l’usage et la préparation du corps humain et que j‘ai consolidé pour la première fois en 1997.

Les informations contenues dans l’Axis Syllabus sont tirées de différents champs scientifiques et mises à l’épreuve et enrichies de nos expériences. La mission de l’Axis Syllabus est de permettre à l’individu de faire des choix éclairés lorsqu’il danse, enseigne ou apprend.

Dans ce stage, vous explorerez la complexité de la topographie des surface articulaires et découvrirez comment préserver la santé de votre corps, en comprenant quelles en sont les limites appropriées. Ce travail est une excellente préparation au contact improvisation, car il renforce la discipline personnelle et le sens de la responsabilité d’un bien-être mutuel.

Note: Pour ce stage, il est recommandé d’être à l’aise avec le dialogue tactile, les transferts et le partage de poids, les portés, le travail en dynamique, les chutes, … Il ne s’agit pas un stage d’introduction au contact improvisation.

Né en 1960, Frey Faust a commencé à se produire à l’âge de 8 ans avec sa famille en tant que troubadour itinérant. Il est un contact improvisateur de deuxième génération et un ancien de la scène de la danse new-yorkaise des années 80. Certaines de ses premières influences les plus importantes sont venues de Shekhinah Mountainwater, Nita Little, Pavel Rouba, Rene Bazinet et Janet Panetta.

Il a travaillé avec et pour un certain nombre d’artistes (par ordre d’apparition) : Ohad Naharin, Donald Byrd, David Parsons, Gina Buntz, Howard Katz, Merce Cunningham, Meredith Monk, Randy Warshaw, Bob Een, Stephen Petronio, Danny Ezralow… pour n’en citer que quelques-uns.

Il a fondé ou cofondé trois compagnies de danse et a créé ou co–créé plus de 40 œuvres chorégraphiques en solo ou en groupe. Après une étude indépendante de l‘anatomie, de la biomécanique et de la physique, il a pu construire une approche pédagogique qui a fait de lui un enseignant, un coach personnel et un conseiller technique recherché. Après quinze ans de recherche, il a consolidé ses résultats dans un livre, « The Axis Syllabus – human movement lexicon« , qu‘il continue d‘éditer avec l‘aide de l‘Axis Syllabus Research Meshwork. Fondé en 2009, l‘ASRM est un groupe d‘experts en pleine expansion, issus de nombreux domaines liés au mouvement humain et aux sciences de l‘éducation.

Récemment, son travail au sein de l’Axis Syllabus s’est concentré sur la mise en place d’une « université » en ligne pour l’étude du corps humain : Le Forum ASRM, ainsi que sur la construction d’un ensemble de symboles susceptibles de rationaliser la documentation, la création et l’analyse des mouvements, le Système de Notation de l’Axis Syllabus. Il fabrique également des chaussures, parle quatre langues et continue de créer et d’interpréter des danses.

Principles before form.

CI requires an acurate awareness of where the Center Of Gravity is and where it is traveling to, in order then to share it with our partners and collaborate wisely.

There are different applications of the principles that manifest as movement in each context. CI in particular requires the study of and therefore allows us to play with a modular support variable, and many other parameters that open when we seek agreement with another person on how to inhabit space and time.

In this workshop we will look at the physical principles that support our dances, allowing us to get past the spoken word and into the continuum flow of a shared creative expansion.

The Axis Syllabus is a compendium of useful information about the treatment and preparation of the human body that continues to be edited, but that I first consolidated in 1997.

The information in the AS is drawn from the relevant sciences, which is tested through the real world application of this information and an experiential feedback process. The AS mission is to empower the individual to make informed choices for themselves when making a dance, teaching or learning movement. The understanding that each body has a slightly different history: physical, medical and psychological, implies a suggestive rather than dictatorial leadership role.

In this class you will learn about the complexity of joint surface topography alignment and discover how to conserve your body’s health through the understanding of what limits are appropriate. This work is an excellent preparation for CI, as it enhances personal discipline and the sense of responsibility for mutual welfare when dancing with others.

Born in 1960, Frey Faust began performing at the age of 8 with his family as a traveling troubadour. He is a second generation contact improviser and an alumnus of the 80´s New York dance scene. Some of his more important early influences came from: Shekhinah Mountainwater, Nita Little, Pavel Rouba, Rene Bazinet, and Janet Panetta.

He has worked with and for a number of artists (order of appearance): Ohad Naharin, Donald Byrd, David Parsons, Gina Buntz, Howard Katz, Merce Cunningham, Meredith Monk, Randy Warshaw, Bob Een, Stephen Petronio, Danny Ezralow… to name a few.

He founded or co-founded three dance companies, and has created or co-created over 40 choreographic solo and group works. Following an independent study of anatomy, biomechanics, and physics, he has been able to build a pedagogical approach that has made him a sought after teacher, personal coach and technical counselor. After fifteen years of research, he consolidated his findings in a book, ‘The Axis Syllabus – human movement lexicon’, which he continues to edit with the help of the Axis Syllabus Research Meshwork. Founded in 2009, the ASRM is a rapidly expanding group of experts from many related fields in the human movement and education sciences.

Recently, his work on the AS has been focused on the provision of an online « university » for the study of the human body: The ASRM Forum, as well as the construction of a symbol set with the potential to streamline movement documentation, creation and analysis, The Axis Syllabus Notation System. He also makes shoes, speaks 4 languages, and continues to create and perform dances.
